Coyote Rio

Creative Consulting and Design

We've just moved in to our temporary offices. We are located on the second floor of the old Setzer Building. Right next to the Jackalope, AZ Depot.

History of the Setzer Building.

Originally a Harvey house along the Santa Fe Railroad, it was designed by Mary Jane Colter in 1939 and is one of her lesser known projects. It was a departure from her signature "Southwesertern" architecture style. The building never received much notoriety possibly due to the fact it was not typical of Colter's work. Another possible cause of the buildings lack of fame was its completion date - November 30th 1941. just one week before the U.S. entrance in to World War II. With all headlines focused on the war, little attention was paid to the arrival of a new Harvey House.

The building received it's "Setzer" name as reference to a farmer turned Big Band leader. Elias "Bugs" Setzer originally owned and farmed the land currently occupied by his namesake and the Jackalope Depot. When the Santa Fe Railroad inquired of a purchase, Bugs was all too happy to sell his farm and pursue a career in entertainment. He went on to achieve much fame and success in his musical life (he will still occasionally visit the Setzer Building and perform along with his Big Band).

The building ceased it's life as a Harvey house in the late 1950's; however it continues to operate as a restaurant under the name "Setzer's 66" and has become an icon along Route 66 in Arizona. It is know for it's excellent food, friendly service and nostalgic atmosphere.

So what is Coyote Rio CCD doing above a Restaurant next to the railroad tracks? We chose the location out of necessity. Frankly, it was in the right location and available at the right time (immediately). We needed a place to hang our hats and get to work. The garage just couldn't contain our growth, ambitions and dream any longer. Note the "temporary" designation. As it suggests, we will not be located here for long. Upon completion of our new building and facilities we will be picking up stakes and moving again. Check back for continuing updates.......
